Molten Salt Reactor

The SSR is a zirconium and sodium fluoride salts-cooled, graphite-moderated thermal spectrum molten salt reactor. 8 37.5 MWe modules form a standard 750 MWt/300MWe unit. The static form of the liquid fuel salt eliminates many of the technical hurdles associated with mobile, liquid fuels typical to molten salt reactors; fuel assemblies are designed for compatibility with existing IAEA Safeguard procedures

The MCFR is a chloride salt-cooled, liquid-fueled fast spectrum molten salt reactor operating on a U-Pu fuel cycle. This breed-and-burn concept utilizes depleted or unenriched (natural) uranium as makeup fuel.

The IMSR is a fluoride salt-cooled, graphite-moderated, liquid-fueled thermal spectrum reactor based heavily on Oak Ridge National Labs' Denatured Molten Salt Reactor. The 400 MWt/190MWe reactor is designed to operate for 7 years with online refueling, utilizing 5% (or lower) enriched uranium as both startup and makeup fuel. The integral reactor vessel, which contains all primary systems, doubles as intermediate-term containment and is designed to remained sealed during operation.

The 50 MWt/15 MWe Thorenco reactor operates in the thermal/epithermal spectrum and is cooled by natural circulation at full power, with eutectic sodium and beryllium fluoride coolant. The thorium-uranium-sodium-beryllium-fluoride fuel salt is contained within Hastelloy-nickel cladding in a honeycomb geometry, and the reactor is designed to operate for 10 years without refueling.

The LFTR is a fluoride salt-fueled, graphite-moderated, thorium-fueled thermal spectrum molten salt reactor. Thorium-232 is converted into uranium-233 in a breeding blanket to fuel this 600 MWt/250MWe reactor.

The MCSFR is a 2500 MWt/1000 MWe chloride-cooled, liquid-fueled fast spectrum reactor with fuel cycle flexibility. It has the ability to run on spent nuclear fuel and plutonium, 10-20% enriched uranium, or uranium-233 and thorium. To expedite commercialization, the MCSFR is designed with only nuclear code-qualified materials and a well-established power conversion system.

The ThorCon reactor is a fluoride salt-cooled, liquid-fueled, graphite-moderated thermal spectrum molten salt reactor with a capacity of 557 MWt/250 MWe. The reactor is fueled by both thorium and uranium, the latter of which is ~20% enriched (makeup fuel, 20% enriched uranium, must be added daily). The plant is designed for fully passive safety and such that all plant components may be manufactured on shipyard-style assembly lines.

The TAP Reactor is a liquid-fueled, fluoride salt-cooled, zirconium hydride-moderated thermal spectrum reactor. The 1250 MWt/550 MWe first-of-a-kind design will use 5% enriched uranium as both startup and makeup fuel.
